Tui Class celebrate Samoan Language Week

What a fantastic week we have had in Tui Class. We welcomed 2 new Tuis and their whanau, Bezalel and Matatapu. Ella's Mum and Dad, Charlie and Ati came in and gave us a great presentation on Ati's traditional Samoan tattoo. It was a day of gifts as Charlie had made us all lolly leis and Mary Matatapu's Mum gave each of us an amazing rugby field cup cake. Today was supa suey and lava lava day and again Charlie arrived with her own Mum this time. She had cooked a huge pot of supa suey that fed the whole school !!! Some people had 3 helpings.

Bez is welcomed at School prayer.

Doesn't Matatapu look smart in his new uniform.

Happy Birthday Matatapu, we loved your awesome cupcakes.

Tialemua and Rosa read the fantastic new Samoan language resources Charlie has made.

Ati gave us a wonderful presentation

Tui Class leading School Prayer

Today Tui took the whole school prayer. We have been talking about the Holy Spirit in our RE programme and shared with the school our thoughts and ideas. Mrs Pennington was so proud of all the Tuis who were so brave. Everyone stood up in front of the school and helped with a part of the prayer. Danijela used a lovely clear voice to teach everyone The Sign of the Cross in Croatian. Thank you to Lola's cousin Tom Mannix who shared a reading on the Holy Spirit for us.Way to go Tuis !!!

School Cross Country

Today was a fantastic morning at our annual school cross country. Everyone had rehearsed their team chants and with face painting, balloons and flags we had a wonderful fun atmosphere.

Ms Delahunty came up with a great challenging course that involved dodging through trees, climbing over beams and boxes, stepping through hoops and running through cones.

Mr Theobald warmed us up and we had some lovely senior runners to show us the way. We all were fantastic runners and everyone finished. Big congratulations to Lola who showed her grit and determination and came first, Ella wasn't far behind and came third.

The teachers this year were beaten for the first time by the parents, Mrs Pennington was hoping to blind them with her bright yellow outfit.

What a great but tiring day!

Welcome Kiri and Apai.

Monday was a special day for Tui class, as we welcomed Kiri and Apai and their whanau to our class. It was lovely to have their cousins or siblings stand up with them at school prayer and introduce them to the whole school community.

Our Pet Blessing

Well the rain didn't stop us having a very special time at our first ever Pet Liturgy at Sacred Heart Petone! Everyone was so excited including some of our pets. Father Albano took a very enjoyable Liturgy and despite it being a slightly louder than normal congregation, everyone was well behaved and there were no mishaps. :) We had a great variety of pets from chickens to rabbits. Here's a few of our visitors.

Discovery Time at Sacred Heart Petone

On Fridays the 4 classes in the Junior Team get together for Discovery Time. This is one of the children and teachers favourite  part of the school week. It's the chance for children to work alongside other children in different classes and take charge of their own learning. Teachers plan several different activities related to a certain theme, children are encouraged to problem solve and think creatively while learning to share, take turns and communicate with a variety of other people.
We love Discovery Time !!!
Here's Thomas working on his Mother's Day card.

Caitlin, Rosa, Thomas and Lola are busy creating pet rocks for our special Pet Blessing Liturgy on Thursday.
Tialemua joins other friends at the table making a beautiful tissue flower to give Mum on Mother's Day.

Welcome back to Term 2 Everybody

Tui Class has lost a few children to Ruru class but already we have two lovely new Tuis, Lola and Caitlin. Welcome to school girls t's great to have you here.

We have had lots of fun learning ball skills with Janette through the Fun ferns netball initiative.

In our RE programme we are learning about God's Holy Spirit. The balloons reminded us that The Holy Spirit is like our breath, we can't see it.

Caitlin has her first session on the laptops with her lovely Kakapo IT Techie, Cassidy.

Lola and Angelica learn some fun things on the laptop together.

Here's Lola on her first day already showing what a fantastic listener and learner she is.
