Another busy week in Tui

It definitely has been getting cooler in the mornings but the Tuis have enjoyed the lovely sunny days. This week Thomas and Oscar visited us again. We look forward to them starting school on Monday. We have had two tennis sessions with Tom, here we are getting used to our rackets and tennis balls. Nurse Helen came and had a session with us on washing our hands and keeping our teeth healthy. Her cool torch showed us where the magic glow cream was when we practiced washing our hands with it. Don't forget to sing the whole song of Twinkle twinkle Little Star while you wash your hands.

A day of Special Visitors in Tui

Today we had several special visitors to Tui. Oscar and his dad Andrew came on a school visit. Oscar starts school soon so it was great for him to meet all his new class mates and get a introduction to what happens at school.
We had a visit from Kath, a worker for CARITAS. She showed us images from the Solomon Islands and shared with us all the wonderful things they are working on over there.
Then it was the turn of Henio. We had a great music session with Tekafa's  (and he found out a few others too) Uncle. We were so lucky to have him visit us and give up his time to teach us a new Tokelau waiata 'Ika Ika'. Tekafa's Papa dropped in some very yummy cupcakes and stayed to provide a drumming background. We then created some lovely art work using stencils that Henio has made himself. He is such a talented guy!!! Thankfully we didn't scare him off so he is going to come back and help us teach the rest of the Junior Syndicate. We are very excited about being the shortest teachers at school.

Snapshot of some of the learning Tui had today

In Tui we learn through a variety of mediums. Here we are with our Kakapo buddies learning how to use a laptop. We can use apps on our ipad to practice our sounds. We are using a whiteboard to write out some basic facts.

Discovery Morning

What a fantastic finish to the end of our EOTC week. The weather was lovely and most of our Discovery activities were outside making the most of it. Thanks to some awesome parents, Barry, Monica, Ana, Phoebe and Madeline we had the best Discovery morning we have ever had. Our focus was 'Relating to Others', and everyone was busy at different activities helping each other. Here are some of the things we got to do.

"I liked riding my bike and making a kite, it was fun" said Megan.

"I liked flying my kite because it was really windy" said Mouanaki.

" I liked riding my bike wround the school" said Tialemua.

Petone Beach and Settlers Museum

It was a beautiful calm day with just enough cloud cover to keep us from being burnt. We had a session with Jen at The Settlers Museum, where we listened to one of her favourite stories and made our own beautiful rainbow necklaces. Stephen and Aaron cooked sausages for everyone, we made amazing sand sculptors, beach crafts and chilled out with ice blocks. Aren't we lucky to be so close to the beach, Tui make sure you take your family on a visit to Settlers Museum if you have spare time one weekend.

Zoo Trip

The fun continued with our trip to Wellington Zoo. What a wonderful place. We had turns at feeding the beautiful giraffes, hung out very close to the kangaroos and saw lots of fantastic animals. Thank you to all the parents who came along and helped us, we hope you had as much fun as we did.

EOTC WEEK

What a fantastic start to our EOTC week. The sun was shinning and the wind was still. Years 1 to 6 all headed down to McKenzie Baths for a fun swim, then walked over to Petone Rec for a picnic and games afternoon. We all had a really fun day.
